Samsthan shri Gavimath facing to the east of Koppal is a source of divine light. Shri Gavimath has the history of one thousand years. H.H.Rudrumuni Shivacharya Mahaswamiji is the pioneer of Gavimath. The total dedication of all the seventeen peetadhipatis of Gavimath for the noble causes like spread of education and upliftment of the unfortunate of this famine stricken area, has transformed Shri Gavimath into holy haven of Thrivida Dasoha (food, Education, Spiritual Knowledge) The history of the development of this part of Karnataka becomes complete only with the mention of the contributions of Gavimath.

THE MAIN DEITY SHRI GAVISIDDESHWAR.

The main deity Shri Gavisiddeshwar, the eleventh peetadhipati of shri Gavimath, his early name Gududayya was born in Mangalpur near Koppal. Gudadayya stayed with Shri. Jadegouda, the Revenue head of Koppal for a short period. The inborn spiritual qualities forced him to meditate in the tranquil lap of Malemalleshwara to attain the divinity. With the strong desire of shri Guru Chennabasava Shivayogi of Gavimath, Shri Gudadayya came down to Shri Gavimath where he achieved SHIVAYOGA SIDDHI (art of joining Atma with Paramatma). Thus Gudadayya became “GAVISIDDA’ with the blessings of Shri Guru Channabasava Shivayogi.

Shri Gavisiddeshwara of Gavimath did many miracles for the disciples who believed and worshipped him. For instance the then Nizam of Hyderbad who was suffering from leprosy (skin disease) approached His Holiness Shri Gavisiddeshwara and Pujya Swamiji gracefully cured Nizam with his divine powers. He was much pleased and donated 1300 acres of land to Gavimath as a taken of gratitude Of course today all these lands are not remained with math due to land Reforms Act.

Shri. Gavisiddeshwarawillingly entered the Samadhi built for his aged Guruji as he could not bear the separation from his Guruji and attained “ Nirvikalpa samadhi’ Shri Gavisiddeshwar was immorfalized by getting the honour of performing his CAR FESTIVAL (PUNYARADHANE). by his Guruji . His Holiness, Shri Gavisiddeshwara bestowed spiritual power to Shri Gavimath. It is true that Lord Shri Gavisiddeshwara is still with us in an unseen form, fulfilling aspirations of his believers. His presence has been proved in many occasions beyond doubt.

HIS HOLINESS MARISHANTVEER MAHASHIVAYOGI.

His Holiness Shri. Marishantaveeraswamiji, the 16th peetadipathi heightened Shri Gavimath to acme. He is still in the heart of the people by virtue of his profound knowledge of Sanskrit, philosophy, logic, Ayurveda and more than that his invaluable contributions to a cause of education, free food to the poor students and popularization of Ayurvedic system. He was the embodiment of kindness to the students specially the poor & the neglected. In his tours to the villages,he used to identify the needy students and bring with him such students to Shri. Gavimath for their all-round development. He started free boarding and hostel to the students irrespective of caste, creed, class, religion and sect. He established Shri.Gavisiddeshwar High School in 1951. Realizing the lack of educational facilities in this area he founded Shri Gavisiddeshwara Vidya Vardhak Trust and donated all the landed property of Shri Gavimath to the Trust to ensure unhindered growth in imparting education. Today a number of institutions are being run under this Trust. These institutions are rendering significant service to the society especially in the field of education and social service with the help of its various institutions. Undoubtedly we all are indebted to the constant endeavor of Poojya Shri Marishantaveer Mahaswamiji.

HIS HOLINESS SHRI. SHIVASHANTAVEER MAHASWAMIJI.

His Holiness Shri. Shivashantaveera Mahaswamiji, the Seventeenth Peethadipati, added the lustre to the glitter and glory of Shri.Gavimath. He not only strengthened the works of his Guruji but also extended quite appreciably the halo of Shri. Gavimath by means of solid & sacred achievements. He revived all the branches of Shri.Gavimath(shakha Mutts) spread all over the state. He opened need-based educational instituations with all infrastructures to enable them to give qualitative education. Himself a scholar in Sanskrit and Ayurveda,he successfully fulfilled his dream of establishing Ayurveda college and Hospital with the intention of providing free treatment and free supply of ayrvedic medicines to the poor. He launched the most ambitious plan of Ayurvedic Medical college at an estimated cost of Rs.8 Croses .

He worked tremendously hard around the clock for the fulfillment of his plans.

THE PRESENT PEETADIPATI

POOJYA SHRI GAVISIDDESHWARA MAHASWAMIJI.

The present swamiji His Holiness Shri. Gavisiddeshwara Mahaswamiji is a post-graduate in English, philosophy and Sanskrit. He is a scholar, orator, thinker, creative worker, educationist, reformist and above all he is an ardent follower of his Guruji. He is an exemplary for GURUBHAKTHI AND KRIYASHAKTI. He believes himself not as a Peethadipati of Shri Gavimath but as an humble servant chosen by his revered Guruji , of which he feels proud to serve to uphold the greatness of Shri. Gavimath and for promoting good of all. He is quite sincere in carrying out the aims and aspirations of his Guruji. His Holiness strived hard successfully for the completion of unfinished Ayurvedic college & Hospital building within the record period of one year and observed the first “punya Smarane” of his Guruji in the premises of the completed building of Ayurvedic college quite meaningfully and magnificently.

His Holiness Shri Gavisiddeshwar Mahaswamiji after his every visit to the villages of Gavimath followers in the district returned with heavy heart deeply moved by the pathetic condition of the poor in providing education to their children due to poverty. He took upon himself the task of performing “SIKSHANA YAGNA’ which he regards the right form of worship to his Guruji as well as fulfilling the need of the present situation.

Food for life, education for living, health for strength, and spiritualism for self realization are the mottos of Shri Gavisiddeshwara Mahaswamiji His vision and mission is to bring out students of character for the promotion of peace and prosperity of the nation and the universe as a whole.

Realizing the most urgent need of the hour to dismal and distressing plight of education of this area, His Holiness Mahawamiji immediately founded need-based educational institutions like D.Ed centre, B.Ed College and B.B.M College and also pioneered to start a Residential school with CBSE syllabus.
